April 21, 2010 - Technology Association of Georgia Technology Association of Georgia Announces the Launch of its Economic Gardening Program The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), the southeast’s leading technology industry association, is pleased to announce the launch of its Economic Gardening program. The program, funded in part by a grant awarded by the Economic Development Administration (EDA), will focus on meeting the needs of high-growth entrepreneurs in advanced stages of the business cycle. “Economic gardening will enhance and accelerate the maturity of early-stage tech and tech-enabled companies by leveraging existing regional strengths along with new, innovative business support services,” said Tino Mantella, President of Technology Association of Georgia (TAG). Specifically, TAG’s Economic Gardening program will offer an array of services, the highlight of which is powerful and in-depth marketing research. The research will be provided by Chris Gibbons, the pioneer of the Economic Gardening methodology, and his team of specialized research analysts. Other services and features of the program include staffing assessment, peer to peer learning, competition analysis, and demographic analysis. Currently, only businesses in the Coastal Georgia Economic Development District qualify for the services. These counties include Byran, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, McIntosh, and Screven. In the future, additional counties around Georgia may be eligible. TAG is working closely with regional organizations that support the coastal business community, including the Savannah Economic Development Authority (SEDA), The Creative Coast Alliance (TCCa), Georgia Tech Savannah, ATDC Savannah, and others. Kevin D. Johnson, recently appointed as the Director of Economic gardening for TAG, will lead the program. Kevin joins the TAG team with extensive experience as a business consultant and entrepreneur. “The Coastal Region of Georgia has a thriving entrepreneurial community, distinguished by its innovation and creativity. TAG’s Economic Gardening program will serve as a catalyst to businesses that comprise this vibrant community, spurring sustainable growth that will benefit the regional economy. ” said Johnson. The year-long, pilot project is expected to help at least 32 companies and to create at least 50 new jobs, according to grantee estimates.
